8 reviews of Sesimbra Castle

breathtaking view of the coast

The castle is certainly the most photographed monument in the city. It's in a valley surrounded by mountains with a single opening to the south, which overlooks the sea and part of the city. I recommend you drive up because there is a little uphill path and in the middle of august walking you could fail. The first thing we found was a pine forest where they have installed several barbecues (a measure taken to prevent forrest fires) Up a little road we found on our left the church of Nossa Senhora da Consolaçao do Castelo, founded in the twelfth century and rebuilt in the eighteenth. It continued with a small cemetery and finally the castle in the background.
