This river was once an important...
This river was once an important channel / mode of transport to get from the Central Valley to the Caribbean. The Sarapiqui River is a river well known in Costa Rica. It is 85 kilometers long, and it begins at the same old crater lake of the Poás Volcano. From there, it starts a steep decline to the mouth of the San Juan River, and in Puerto Viejo de Sarapiqui.
It's a pretty strong river, surrounded by lush vegetation, especially in the area that runs roughly parallel to the Pan American Highway, in its last few miles before turning its waters in Puerto Viejo. In fact, in areas where it is possible, it is worth going to the river to see its force firsthand of which the water falls and enjoy all the extensive vegetation and green tones accompanying unimaginable river. It is a feeling of being surrounded by a nature, an area full of life and color.
