This chapel is the real gem of the present Church of San Fructuoso, located on the outskirts of Braga, in São Salvador de Montélios. It is a seventh-century Visigothic chapel, founded by the first bishop of Braga, Frutuoso Dume, which he built to house his grave (his remains are in an urn inside the parish church). It was rebuilt several times. It is inspired by a Byzantine mausoleum, and considered as a true example of Islamic architecture. Next to it a monastery, which was the center of religious life in the area, extinct in the sixteenth century arose. The chapel has a Greek cross with straight outer arms, and semicircular on the inner face. In the interior the Corinthian capitals and frieze decorated with plant motifs and the triple arcade formed by horseshoe arches, under which the image of San Fructuoso, made of polychrome wood is. It has been declared a National Monument.
