Santa María de Meira Church

Galicia es una de las comunidades que más dulces y bonitos recuerdos de mi infancia me trae. Allí pasé la mayor parte de mis veranos en las décadas de los 80s y 90s, y si pienso en ello mi mente se traslada a Meira. De madre gallega, esta pequeña villa lucense fué el destino de mis travesuras y lecciones infantiles que aún hoy recuerdo como si acabaran de pasar. Su iglesia, imponente en su Plaza Mayor es uno de los símbolos de esta villa que más recuerdo. Es una iglesia preciosa en cuya entrada un panel informativo describiéndola así: "La iglesia de Santa María de Meira era parte del monasterio del S.XII. Está clasificado como Monumento Nacional desde 1931. Su estilo es románico sin influencia compostelana. Su planta es de cruz latina, típica del Císter con tres naves y cinco capillas cubiertas por bóvedas de medio cañón. El magnífico rosetón de la fachada es una de las señas de identidad de Meira. Los trabajos de herrería que decoran la puerta son los originales. En el interior de la iglesia destaca el sepulcro de Doña María de Bolaño, noble gallega". Seguramente habrá iglesias más bonitas que ésta repartidas por España y por el mundo, pero para mí esta es una de las importantes, uno de esos lugares que te marcan de por vida, que te dejan huella en el alma y en el carácter y que guían, sin que tú no lo sepas, el camino que recorres para hacerte adulto.
