Santa María Cape Lighthouse

The lighthouse at Cape Santa Maria is located on the Cape of the same name, with a focal height of 42 metres. It is the most recognised building in the city and has been a National Historic Landmark since 1976. It is open all day Saturday, all day Sundays and on public holidays from 16h30 to 18h30 hours. The tower is 29 metres high and its beautiful staircase has 143 steps. They were painting it when I visited and it shone pure white. On the ground floor there is a model of the lighthouse and photos of other lighthouses in the country. There is also a small shop with souvenirs of the lighthouse.
