Santa Justa Lift

More commonly known as the Santa Justa Elevator, it was so named because Santa Justa Street joins with the Plaza do Carmo. The Elevator was designed by Raoul Mesnier de Ponsard and although his aesthetic resembles that of the Eiffel Tower, no relationship was proven with the engineer of the famous Parisian monument, Gustave Eiffel. Its construction began in the year 1900 and ended in 1902. It has two elevators with wood paneling inside and with a capacity of 20 people each. Has resulted in a wide range of unusual transport options. Perhaps the most outstanding is the cast iron Santa Justa lift. This national monument is a unique experience, riding in style up to pretty Largo do Carmo. Inaugurated in 1902, amazingly it is still part of the Lisbon public transport infrastructure.

Lisbon, the capital of Portugal, is a paradise for any traveler. I had a memorable, enjoyable & rewarding trip to Lisbon. This picture is from the top of the Santa Justa Lift during a full-moon.

An iconic spot. Queues are shorter in the mornings, and when riding from top to bottom.

The views are nice but I prefer to visit the viewpoints in Barrio Alto or Castelo de Sao Jorge.
