Carlos Olmo
A castle with a long history in its stones
The Castillo of Santa Cruz is on a small island off Santa Cruz beach, connected to land by a wooden walkway about 100 meters long in the Ria de A Coruña. It dates from the XVII century and was constructed to prevent further attacks on the city by privateers like Drake. It stopped being a strategic point and passed into private hands, it then returned to the army (as a residence for orphans of soldiers) and it was eventually acquired by the City of Oleiros for recreational and cultural use.
