2 reviews of Sant Andrèu de Casau Church

A return to the Romanesque

Excellent

After winding down the few streets of the minute village of Casau, we reach its architectural jewel: the Church of Sant Andrèu.

There are few details left of its Romanesque origins. As has happened in the rest of the valley, Sant Andrèu has ended up absorbing different styles. But the beauty of these churches is their location, always in places that grant it a specially photogenic setting and thanks to their church towers, trace minute concentrations of constructions that stand out because of their fine and pointy towers.

In Sant Andrèu the outstanding feature is the carved Stone, which is simple in its tracery and this enables us to note its lengthy history, these carvings are inset in the upper part of the façade of the church.

We are before another church that shapes the rich Romanesque heritage of Lleida.

Different architectural styles in the same building

Diferentes estilos arquitectónicos en un mismo edificio

Excellent
Although the church of Sant Andreu Casau part of the Romanesque Route Aran Valley, few are preserved Romanesque elements. What characterizes this temple is that it combines different architectural styles in the same building: Gothic access cover (XV century) but with a Christ Crucified XIII century, eighteenth century bell ... and already inside, a Romanesque font, and various sculptures of religious imagery of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. It is possible to visit the church inside, so we have to settle for seeing the exterior. Most significant is the crucified Christ carved Romanesque find the top of the cover. However, its location in the foothills of Moncorbisson and fabulous views of the mountain Vielha Baqueira and well worth a visit. Furthermore, various routes depart Casau nature that allow us to discover the beauty of the Pyrenees, including the Bassa of Oles.
