Sandboard in the Desert of Huaracanga
One of the biggest complaints about deserts (and some privileged beaches with dunes), in recent times, is the practice of sandboarding, ie riding a board, like snowboarding, on the sand dunes. In Peru you can do it in several places. Perhaps the best known is the desert of Ica, near the city of Ica. But undoubtedly the "wildest" method is practiced in the Huaracanga desert (around Nazca). At the foot of Cerro Blanco, the highest sand dune in the world (2,078 m), is a vast area of dunes. Some areas are accessible by buggy (sandbox they call it there), but others must be accessed on foot, perhaps the most painful part of the process.
