A Visit to the Patron Saint of Urduña-Orduña
To everyone who might be interested in visiting this sanctuary, let me give you a piece of advice: get there walking, since it will allow you to slowly go inside its calm gardens.
There is a nice walk from the town to the sanctuary, from which we are able to contemplate the impressive building that belongs to the Company of Mary (until a few years ago it was a school, and now it’s practically in disuse). We continue along the path contemplating the mansions on both sides of the walk. We cross the railway tracks and we reach a zebra crossing, then a small slope that takes us to the gardens of the sanctuary, full of peace and tranquility.
When you go inside the sanctuary and reach the middle of it, the lights will turn on so we can admire this beautiful place. It houses the image of Our Lady of Antigua, patron saint of the city since 1639 since, according to tradition, a shepherd found her on a white mulberry tree.
The current sanctuary, inaugurated in 1782, substituted an older one, but still preserves the gothic façade under a renaissance portico.
