6 reviews of Castel San Pietro

An exceptional lookout for a unique city

The Castel San Pietro (Verona, Italy) stands atop a hill with the same name. For centuries it was a place of high strategic importance, as from its privileged position, it could control the entire city. In 1801, much of the castle and its auxiliary buildings was destroyed by Napoleon's troops. Between 1852 and 1853, the current headquarters were erected. The enclosure is irregular, due to the contours of the land on which it is built. Despite a long period of neglect, the current condition isn't too bad.

It's a good spot to go to enjoy a lovely view of the city of Verona. The interior of the castle is open to the public, and it's just 15 minutes walk from the historic city centre.
