Church and convent over the river Tamega
The very 1st thing that catches your attention you when you get to there is the church and convent founded by Amarante own San Gonzalo de Amarante, a Catholic priest who died in this population and was later made a saint by the church, in the first half of the 16th century. The lovely building is at the bridge over the river Támega, with the passage of time was broadened and has features very similar to some of the convents and churches in Galicia, made of plant that contrasts to the statues that are on the top of its front door.
