A mixture of different architectural styles
In the center of Santa Croce district this church built in the IX-X centuries, then completely rebuilt in 1225, so it's a mixture of different architectural styles. The name "dell'Orio" comes from a laurel tree that was next to the church during construction. Its sober faced exterior contrasts with its interior and excellent decorated ceiling, preserving Byzantine remains. Between the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries a transept was built of the basilica plan with 3 naves. Gothic elements were also added, such as capitals, columns with arches and the Sacrament Chapel was restored.
