San Francisco Church

San Francisco Church is in lower Almacave Street, next to the Municipal Library, and belonged to a former XVI century Franciscan monastery. Externally it's very striking but the stone is newer as the original was almost completely destroyed after a fire (1916). It's surrounded by a landscaped area, has a rectangular nave with several side chapels and choir loft. The ceiling is vaulted and the interior has a wood carving of Our Lady (XVI century), a painting depicting the death of St. Francis (XVII century) and the chapel of Our Lady of Sorrows, protected by a gate and railings, where there are historic tile panels depicting the Passion of Christ.
