Salzedas

Salzedas is a freguesía belonging to concello of TAROUCA (10 km away), located at the bottom of a narrow valley, on the right bank of the river Varosa. It has about 9 km2, and about 900 inhabitants. Its existence dates back to the twelfth century, as the village came to be as an extension of the Monastery of Santa Maria (Cistercian). The center of town is the Praça António Pereira de Sousa, where the Church of Santa M ª, the source and pillory are located. From this square there are a series of steep cobbled streets that lead to the picturesque medieval neighborhood Jewry.
