Diving in Menorca

Excellent

Lately I'm fond of diving so when I went to Menorca I had to explore its depths. So I chose this DIVING S'ALGAR, which is the only center of the island which has a specific fiber boat for diving. It is also located right next to the pier, which makes things much easier. Believe me, when you carry 20kg at the back and you are wrapped in a tight (and thick) wetsuit, the last thing you want is to have to walk long distances. Of course, in its facilities they have clothing and a place to store your precious belongings in case you do not want to take them with you on the boat. And in case that was not enough, they also have a diving equipment shop if you fancy, or need to buy something, but they will provide all equipment needed.

I loved seeing that the center staff consists of young people that care and that enjoy their job, but at the same time they also know exactly what they are doing and lend you a hand with a smile (no matter how clumsy you are). To me this is of key importance because when you are in an environment that is not yours you need to be as comfortable and relaxed as possible, and they achieved this. The dive I did was called Sunday Morning, and it is at a 10-15 minute boat ride. The reef site is very near the West End and passing by the Island Air. Another good thing about diving there is that there are more than 20 possible dives, and although the depth does not vary much (about 24m) it so does the level of difficulty. The person in charge of ensuring my safety on this dive was Marina, an incredibly friendly girl from the city of Malaga. I made sure that my bottle was open before jumping into the water in order to prevent the same thing that happened to me in Mexico ... ahem, ahem. I will not talk about that now. Well, once I was in the water I just enjoyed. Best of diving in this area is definitely the topography and visibility. It is full of meadows poseidonia, galleries, walls, caves ... And as the water is so crystal clear that you do not miss a single detail and you also get very well your bearings. The marine fauna, however, is not its strong point. There are many beautiful colors invertebrates, but do not expect to see any big fish, because they do not live around there. Still, occasionally some turtles appear, or barracudas or some tuna. In any case it was a very relaxing and beautiful dive and it became a great memory of the island, because after all it is what all is about. The next time I go to Menorca, I hope I can make another visit to Sylva and her team.
