Saleh Great Mosque
Although the Yemeni capital is a deeply religious city it is not fanatical. The press emphasizes the problems, but you will find friendly people wherever you go. The political turmoil and fundamentalism is exaggerated in the newspapers. The Grand Mosque was inaugurated in 2008 and is a huge white marble building. Although it is relatively simple, it contains magnificent craft work. I saw the library and women's prayer rooms with their valuable carpets and velvet curtains, modern computers and air conditioning throughout the building. To visit it, as in all mosques, women and men enter separately, head, arms and legs covered.
