4 reviews of Saint-Germain-en-Laye

A city for the wealthy businessmen of Paris

On a visit to Paris, a visit to Saint-Germain-en-Laye would not be the 1st thing you do, but it is an interesting and picturesque town. It is about 20km from Paris, and the cheapest way to go is on the RER line A , which brings you here in about 30 minutes. Saint-Germain-en-Laye is northwest of Paris itself, and there is the idea that in the capital is where many of the wealthy businessmen who have their work in Paris. It is known for being formerly "royal city" of many French monarchs, and at that time many buildings and museums are opened by some of them as the Museum of National Antiquities, opened by Napoleon III.

It is also known seal of the city, a cradle, lys flower and the date 1638, all because of that Saint-Germain was the birthplace of King Louis XIV. It's a nice little town to walk and visit. The prices are somewhat high, a little more than average in my opinion. If you want to eat in a restaurant or have a few beers without overpaying, it's best to walk away from the castle, and that around it is where the most expensive hotels and tourist restaurants, the entrance to the RER, which pushes up the price. Next to the castle there are extensive gardens frequently attended by athletes and families.
