Saint Gimer Church

Splendida chiesa disegnata da Viollet-le-Duc e perfettamente visibile dalle mura della città, fu eretta al posto di una torre fortificata a difesa della città. Considerata, come anche la sopraelevata Cité, Patrimonio Mondiale, questa cappella ha una forte importanza architettonica e un valore storico enorme se consideriamo il castello ad essa annesso e ben visibile dalla collina. La torre precedente aveva dimensioni imponenti ed era direttamente collegata al castello da due alte mura, unica via per raggiungere il fiume Aude in caso di assedio durante i periodi più bellicosi della storia di queste terre, una via verso la salvezza potremmo dire senza esitazioni. Tutto il complesso è davvero affascinante e maestoso, i particolar modo se si fan voli di fantasia e si scorre a ritroso fino alla vita in questi luoghi più di centocinquanta anni fa, una vita faticosa fatta di duro lavoro e periodi alterni di guerre e saccheggi. E' un luogo che conserva ancora sangue e sudore degli antenati che lo costruirono, solo per questo vale la pena di esser visitato.

Beautiful church designed by Viollet-le-Duc and clearly visible from the city walls, was erected in place of a fortified tower in defense of the city. Considered, as well as the elevated Cité, World Heritage, this chapel has a strong architectural significance and historical value if we consider the huge castle attached to it and is clearly visible from the hill. The previous tower had impressive size and was directly connected to the castle by two high walls, the only way to reach the river Aude in case of siege during the most warlike of the history of these lands, one way to salvation could say without hesitation. The whole complex is really fascinating and majestic, particularly if they are fans of the flights of fancy and you scroll back up to life in these places more than one hundred fifty years ago, a strenuous life of hard work and alternating periods of war and looting. Située en dehors de la cité de Carcassonne, l’église Saint-Gimer a une belle vue sur le château et la ville moderne de l’autre côté. Ouverte à toute heure de la journée, cette belle église est l'une des plus anciennes de la ville, avec notamment un retable datant du XVII e siècle, parfaitement conservé, mais aussi des peintures plus modernes, comme une toile classique du début du siècle dernier.

Located outside the city of Carcassonne, St. Gimer church has a beautiful view of the castle and the modern city on the other side.
