500 meters high

Rupea is a village in the region of Dacia, known for the large number of Saxon fortresses there. The Saxons settled in the region in the Middle Ages, invited by the Austro-Hungarian emperor to start a new life on their land. In exchange for this land given away, they had to defend the territory against any invasions. Rupea has a fort which is 500 meters high, near the river Olt. Close by, there's a main road which passes just outside of the city which goes from Brasov to Cluj Napoca. If you cross it you'll get to a series of very rural villages. For instance Darjiu, whose strength is in the world heritage list of UNESCO.

In Roman Dacia, there was a fort on the hill of Rupea. In the fourteenth century, the Saxons found the fort destroyed, and built on its ruins a peasant fortress. Within the new fortress they were able to fit all of the cattle and their wealth, enough to last at least several months in that place.
