A hidden place not frequented much

Aguateca ... Along with the places of El Ceibal and Dos Pilas, Aguateca is 1 of the places you can go and visit. Sayaxché village, on the River The Passion (Petén) ... Reach Sayaxché is on a beaten path and quiet: You will have to take public buses or vans from Coban or from Flores Peten. I´m sure there are other ways to get to Sayaxché Flores and to Coban. But it´s worth it. I felt like one of those films that take place in the Amazon rainforest or the African jungles with rivers traveled by boat and the people on the other side. For the accommodation there is not much to choose from. On my last stay, I met Don Pedro, known to everybody as.

Lord. At that time he offered tours to different places (Ceibal, Dos Pilas, Aguateca), and had prepared a newly built hostel that had not yet opened ... It is situated almost on the bank of the river, on the right side as one enters the village from the other side. After going by boat on a tributary of the Passion, Aguateca reach the site. If you dare, you can enter a valley (see photos), slippy, but it gives a touch of adventure! Get to see the same stones and remains of monuments, newly restored, hits, some are from trees, others still half hidden under the lush vegetation of Petén, and finally others are lit by a dazzling sun, with a wonderful view over the plains near covered by jungle. Few tourists out there, but better you find a pair of traveling companions for the boat ride so it´s not so expensive!

Ripoff Joint

Excellent

I am staying at the Dann Carlton. I decided to stop in for a Corona. I should have asked the price first, but instead ordered. When I asked the price, the bartender says 33.000 pesos. Then the waitress ringing up the bill says $42.500.
Because the bottle cap had been removed I did not contest the price. It works out to about $15 USD which is more than I have ever paid for a beer anywhere in the world. Just to contrast, the Dann Carlton charges 12.500 pesos for a Corona and my bartab from last night in El Poblado for múltiple Jack and Cokes was like 55.000.
