3 reviews of Royal Abbey

Very popular

Until 1792, this beautiful historic building of the royal abbey belonged to the Ladies of St. Peter. The abbey was built in the seventeenth century. It was an important place where women held political power and nobility. The building was renovated during the reign of Louis XIV, in the late seventeenth century, for three centuries it has been as you now see it. Now called the palace SAn PEDROT, it houses the Museum of Fine Arts. But the central courtyard is still the royal abbey, with a municipal garden. No need to pay admission since it is so quiet in the middle of the city. It is very popular amongst the people of Lyon as a secret place in a pretty hectic central.

Many works of art decorate the courtyard of the abbey, two Rodin, the Shadow or Adam, and the temptation to San Antonio, the other works are mostly of French artists, Maillol, Pradier or Delhomme.
