Ile Rousseau

Opposite the Pont du Mont Blanc, lies Rousseau Island (L'Île Rousseau in French), named after the Genevan philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau, and a statue of him was placed in the middle of the island in 1835. A stronghold that conveys serenity, with views of the Jet d'Eau, surrounded by trees, swans and geese, and in the midst of the waters of the Rhone River, which flows from Lake Geneva. A bird sanctuary and a restaurant with views of the surrounding cityscape are some features. Previously known as the "Island of the ships" (l'Île aux Barques) by the local merchant fleet in the seventeenth century.
