The viewpoint par excellence in La Palma
Here you’ll find some incredible views into the infinite while completely surrounded by nature. This is La Palma's viewpoint par excellence: el Roque de los Muchachos.
Here, we’re in the highest part of the island, 2,426 meters above sea level. It’s a true delight to be able to take in these views, as we’re in one of the most visited places on the island, and the most special place in La Palma (in my opinion) -- the Caldera de Taburiente National Park.
The viewpoint is at such a high elevation that you can see the other islands, Tenerife, El Heirro, and La Gomera, if the skies cooperate.
As you can see in the pictures, the island and its environment come from volcanic origins. This distinguishes the predominant green color from the martian reds that give this place a unique beauty.
The park was declared a natural reserve in 1954, and in 2002 was made part of UNESCO’s Biosphere program.
Once you’re here (and it’s not easy to get to – as it lies above curvy mountain streets), make sure to check out the observatory. It has the biggest and most modern telescopes in the world. Truly impressive.
You have to go to the top, what are you waiting for?!
