Where Paths Meet

In Puente la Reina the hotels are full by 4 pm. Dinner is served from 7 pm and breakfast is at sunrise.

This beautiful town is full of pilgrims that decorate the place, a colorful landscape where old traditions mix with foreign languages, backpacks, bicycles, canes, and whose background is made up of narrow cobbled streets.

The beautiful church of Santiago, a calm square and noble houses. It is landmark, since it is the place where Camino Francés (French Way, which starts in Roncesvalles) joins the Camino Aragonés (Aragonese Way, starting in Somport).

Legend says that Puente la Reina owes its name to the magnificent Roman bridge built over Arga River that was ordered by a queen of Navarra in the 11th Century.

A Walk Along the Town Center

There are 66 kilometers between Roncesvalles and Puente la Reina (Gares), a place where I sleep tonight, on my second night of the journey.

They say that this brigde (built by the orders of the wife of the king of Navarra to faciiltate the pilgrims’ journey), is the most beautiful bridge of the journey. It is the most visited part of the town and what gives it its name.

Alter crossing Pamplona and leaving the forests behind, this landscape is less green, with wheat fields and vineyards, with red soil. I walk around the center of town to get to know better the tradition and history of the Camino.

Puente la Reina

Excellent

A typical place from the Camino de Santiago where different paths meet, from Leire and from Roncesvalles.

This place offers its visitors many experiences and places to visit, from its impressive Roman bridge over Arga River, to the cathedral, passing its narrow streets. A charming place.
