La historia local de Cihuri (y los letreros del lugar) apuntan a que este puente fue construido nada más y nada menos que en el Siglo II, en plena dominación romana de esta zona cercana a la Ribera del Ebro. Tiene tres "ojos", siendo lógicamente el principal el del medio, y destaca que los "ojos" laterales no son simétricos, ni en forma ni en tamaño. Debido a su antigüedad, durante la Edad Media fue completamente rehecho y a finales del siglo pasado se llevaron a cabo algunas mejoras ya que en 1979 fue declarado de interés histórico-artístico. Desde hace mucho tiempo el puente es sólo de acceso peatonal, ya que se construyó otro puente más nuevo y robusto a escasos metros del Puente Romano, y es este puente nuevo el que se utiliza para cruzar por carretera de un lado a otro de la orilla del serpenteante Rio Tirón, un caudaloso afluente del Ebro que baña la bella localidad de Cihuri. El puente está ubicado en las afueras del pueblo de Cihuri, concretamente en el Barrio del Priorato, zona de bodegas particulares del pueblo a la que se accede dando un ameno paseo de menos de 10 minutos. En verano, esta zona del Puente Romano y alrededores se convierte en un área de esparcimiento y recreo de numerosos veraneantes, que no dudan en bañarse en las limpias aguas del río Tirón. Como anécdota, significar que entre los dos puentes antaño el río formaba un pozo bastante profundo, lo que permitía saltar al río desde ambos puentes desafiando a las leyes de la gravedad. Yo hace años que no lo hago, pero las últimas informaciones que me llegan me dicen que el pozo ya no es tan profundo y que hay que tener mucho cuidado al saltar, por ello, a aquellos que no conozcan la zona, no les aconsejo para nada que salten.
