Rod

Rod is a quiet town by the exit of Saliste, to the west of Sibiu. It is a place with a lot of history, populated in the Middle Ages by the Saxons. They were invited by the king of Austria, to populate the meadow around Sibiu, in exchange for defending the territory. In Rod, now the population is more mixed, and mostly Romanian, while in the surrounding villages, sometimes you only hear German on the street. Rod has a beautiful church, built in the 18th century, which dominates the village. Now it is a village of about 500 homes, retaining the Saxon style, large houses with colored facades.
