Rockaway Beach in Queens

Rockaway Beach is in Queens, and the largest beach in an urban area in the US. From downtown Manhattan it can be reached by subway in 1.5 hours. From the nearby JFK airport its about 30 minutes away by metro. This beach, of sand and shells is not the most beautiful in the world, but the surroundings are rooted in the 60s era. It's great to see a bygone era in the country. If you have a stop-over in JFK for a few hours, this beach is a good choice of place to visit, as it is close, you can see the sea and there isn't much noise. There surely won't be any tourists either.
