A historic castle saved by the plea of a boy
The Chateau de la Roche-Courbon is in the city of Saint-PORCHAIRE, between Saintes and Rochefort. It is a fairy castle. Constructed in the 15th century, the castle has kept its essence despite 2 centuries of modifications. Its French-style garden is one of the most gorgeous corners of this fort: an avenue planted with lime trees leads you to the court of honor just east of the castle. Terraces, planters, geometric carpets, statues and vases ... and a pond with a child, the writer Pierre Loti (1850-1923), who used to spend the holidays with his brother, and fell in love with this place where there are marshes and the river Bruant.
