Robert Burns Night
January 25th is a special day all over Scotland. It is a national holiday. It is in fact Scotland´s second offical holiday. It celebrates the birth of national poet par excellence, Robert "Rabbie" Burns. Since his death, the tradition was established in the so-called "public houses" (what is known today in the UK as PUB) to celebrate the birth of such a great artist, by singing, eating and drinking. But to fulfill the tradition, everything has to be done in the traditional way: singing traditional songs, (many of them written by Burns), eating the typical dish of the country (Haggis, Neeps and Taties, shortbread - typical of Scotland) and drink beer and malt whiskey (of Scottish origin of course).
