A great place to stay
This is a great place to stay if you wish to explore the Foreste Casentinesi National Park. The Rifugio is at 1452m close to the 00 hiking path which follows the ridge of the Italian Apennines. From here Monte Falterona (1654m) can be easily reached on foot or by snowshoe in the winter.
As with all Rifugios, the accommodation is basic. However the couple who run the Rifugio have a long history of mountaineering and are very kindly. The fixed evening menu included delicious tortellini and chestnuts roasted in the fire.
