Residence of the commander of the circle

A partir de 1895, l'administration française procéda à un découpage de la royauté d'Abomey : le "cercle" correspondait à la province, lui-même divisé en "communes" et cantons. Le "Commandant du Cercle", Jean Louis Bicaille, en 1952, inaugura cette résidence. Il s'agit d'un bâtiment en terre cuite à un étage. A partir de 1956, ce fut un préfet qui succèda au Commandant du cercle. Abomey connut 3 préfets français : messieurs Rosier, Malfaite et Allusion. De nos jours, le bâtiment, au bout d'une longue allée de saules longilines, sert encore de résidence au Préfet d'Abomey.

From 1895, the French administration proceeded to a division of the kingdom of Abomey: the "circle" corresponded to the province, itself divided into "common" and cantons.
