Este Seminario es uno de los primeros que se construyeron en España y fue construido en el siglo XVI. La fachada se realizó con pizarra del país, lo que le confiere un aspecto bastante oscuro y a ambos lados de la misma se alzan dos torres.

La construcción de este bonito edificio en su ubicación actual comenzó en el siglo XVIII, aunque en origen es uno de los tres primeros en crearse en toda España (puesto que se inauguró en 1572). El título actual de Real Seminario Conciliar de Santa Catalina le fue dado durante el reinado de Carlos III, época en la que este seminario alcanzó una gran relevancia.
