15th century castle
Ravenscraig is the castle of Kirkcaldy. It's located at one end of the city's coast on a cliff. The castle was built by order of King James II, in the 15th century. Historically it was the first castle in Scotland with cannons. Unfortunately, after its construction the king died in an accident after a cannon exploded. Later it passed into the hands of noble families until it was invaded by the British troops under Oliver Cromwell (17th century). It suffered severe damage, the extent to which we can see today. Admission is free and the building can be accessed from the park of the same name. It's worth seeing, as you can appreciate the majority of the original structures.
But be careful as it's a long way down from the castle down to the beach. It offers beautiful views from the beach, at the opposite end of the coast to the castle. Again this is a castle of some historical relevance, which there is almost no information about, nor proper promotion ... a shame, it's been overlooked.
