Dorćol

Il nome deriva dalla parola turca “dort jol”, ovvero “quattro strade” o “incrocio”. In effetti il piccolo quartiere è costituito da una manciata da vie e in passato ospitava turchi, ebrei, greci, tedeschi e armeni, diventando una zona ricca di culture e di commerci. Oggi l’aspetto urbanistico ottocentesco ha lascito poco dell’antico aspetto orientale: c’è soltanto qualche monumento a testimonianza di un passato che si è voluto cancellare il più possibile. Qui si trovano l’unica moschea della città, un paio di tombe ottomane attualmente in ristrutturazione, il museo di Storia ebraica. In questo quartiere si trovano anche il Museo degli affreschi e il Museo pedagogico.

The name comes from the Turkish word "dort jol" or "four roads" or "crossroads". In fact, the neighborhood is made up of a small handful from the streets and in the former Turks, Jews, Greeks, Germans and Armenians, becoming an area rich in culture and commerce. Today, the nineteenth-century urban aspect has little legacy of the ancient oriental appearance: there is only some monuments bearing witness to a past that we wanted to cancel as much as possible. Here are the only mosque in the city, a couple of tombs Ottoman currently under renovation, the museum of Jewish history. In this district you will find the Museum of the frescoes and the Museum pedagogy.
