149 km from Arica and 2,202 km from Santiago, Chile, the Azapa Valley to the east. At 3,500 meters. 1,205 people inhabit the place. It was established as a town in 1580, a Spanish settlement for those responsible for traffic between Potosi and Arica. Architecturally it is of great importance for its buildings from the last century, a time of economic boom. Decorative elements are retained as cover, pillars etc. Around the Plaza de Armas lies the government, the municipality, the rectory and the church built in 1670. The tourist attractions are Surire, Lauca National Park, Hot Springs Jurasi, Nevados of Tarapaca and Vicuña National Reserve.
