Puñihuil Penguin Colonies

10 reviews of Puñihuil Penguin Colonies

What a great success

What a great success was not excluding the island of Chiloe to our tour of Chile. We doubted it at first because we lost time, had to cross by ferry, etc. It is a beautiful island. We took the ferry to Puerto Montt, and even the trip was worth it, we stood on deck to watch the landscape and to smoke a cigarette - we saw sea lions, seals and otters swim around the ferry for the 90 km-long journey. We arrived in Ancud and we were surprised by stilts, houses resting on a sort of wooden stakes built over the water, and beautiful churches. Pinguinera Puñihuil is 30 km from Ancud and within the islets of Puñihuil, which are very close to the beach, there is a habitat for Humboldt and Magellanic penguins.
