The easiest way to reach Islay is to take the Calmac ferry from Kennacraig to Port Askaig or Port Ellen. It is recommended to check the website on the evening before sailing as the service can be subject to alterations if conditions are poor.

Sailing up the Sound of Islay to Port Askaig is spectacular. Passing between the rugged cliffs of Islay and the unmistakable Paps of Jura there is a very high probability of spotting a pod of dolphins leaping in the waves.
