Fishing port of Bowmore

1 review of Fishing port of Bowmore

A busy port

The Bowmore fishing port dates back to the founding of the city during the eighteenth century; however, some historical documents suggest that the dock in the area predates the city. It's not a large port, but it is very busy, and you'll see local fish and shellfish being caught and treated here. On the island of Orkney, seafood is a major tourist attraction, and one of the most common local dishes is a full pint of prawns cooked with herbs and butter, served with a pint of beer, usually at an affordable price. Fish and mussels are also popular. This corner of the island is bustling and productive.

The winds are very strong, but they don't deter the busy fishermen!
