A lovely place to walk
The Port of Port Ellen has a dual purpose. First, as throughout its history, it is a fishing and goods port, where large quantities of malt are moved for use in whiskey. But secondly, it is where you can take the ferry to and from the island of Islay. Fishing here is important, and Port Ellen is where you'll find the largest fleet on the island, in direct competition with the port of Bowmore. You'll find the port at one end of the bay, opposite the lighthouse. It's a lovely place to take a walk and try some of the gastronomic delights of the island, seafood.
