Togetsu-kyo Bridge

Uno de los símbolos más conocidos de Arashiyama es su bosque de bambú, pero no el único. Otro de los más importantes es el puente Togetsu-kyo, el cual cruza el río Oigawa. Aunque, en realidad, el río recibe dos nombres diferentes a cada lado del puente, llamándose río Honzu el lado que queda al oeste del puente y río Katsura el que queda al este. El nombre de este puente significa algo similar a "luna cruzando el puente", tomado de una leyenda relacionada con el emperador Kameyama, el cual, en una noche de luna de llena en la que se encontraba en un barco, afirmó que dicha luna parecía estar cruzando el puente. El primer puente data de del año 836, siendo el actual de 1934. El original se encontraba algo más alejado, pero se terminó trasladando a su ubicación actual para evitar problemas con las riadas. Aunque podemos ver que se ha usado madera en su construcción, sus columnas y vigas son de hormigón armado. Este puente permite a los visitantes disfrutar de unas hermosas vistas del río, las cuales tienen su atractivo especial en cualquier época. En primavera, los cerezos en flor crean un paisaje único. En invierno, puede que se tenga la ocasión de disfrutarlo nevado. Yo lo visité a mediados de octubre y el paisaje era igualmente hermoso, con el verde follaje de los árboles, algunos de los cuales empezaban a adquirir una tonalidad ligeramente rojiza. La montaña Arashiyama, al frente, termina de crear una bella estampa. Además, este puente es famoso por haber aparecido en numerosas películas de época japonesas, con lo que igual eres capaz de reconocerlo si has visto algunas. ¿Y qué más podemos hacer en este lugar, además de deleitarnos con las vistas? Podemos dar de comer a las carpas que viven en sus aguas o, a finales de verano, presenciar la pesca con cormoranes. No muy lejos hay lugares en los que poder alquilar botes de remos. Si tenemos la suerte de visitarlo en diciembre, disfrutaremos de la iluminación nocturna especial que hay en esa época. Además, una vez estemos satisfechos con el tiempo dedicado al puente, podemos proseguir nuestro camino entre las numerosas tiendas y restaurantes que hay en la zona cercana. Por último, me gustaría hablar de una curiosa tradición (llamada Jusan Mairi) que guarda relación con este puente. Cuando los niños y niñas del lugar cumplen 13 años, acuden al cercano templo Horin-ji para recibir sus bendiciones. Deben entonces regresar cruzando el puente bajo la orden de no mirar atrás bajo ninguna circunstancia, puedes de lo contrario perderán la bendición recibida por los dioses y acechará la mala suerte.
