Puente Mayor

Con sus más de 100 metros de longitud y sus seis bóvedas de sillería, el puente mayor de Cacabelos es uno de los más monumentales de la provincia leonesa. El puente sobre el río Rúa existe desde época romana, aunque el que hoy podemos contemplar data de los siglos XVI y XVII. Junto al puente hay una piscina fluvial en la que turistas y lugareños pasan las tardes estivales dándose un buen remojón. Cuenta con zona de arboleda y césped. Como curiosidad, mencionar que el Puente Mayor de Cacabelos fue testigo de una cruenta batalla de la Guerra de la Independencia, que en enero de 1809 enfrentó a ingleses y franceses, y que cada año se rememora con la escenificación de una recreación histórica.

With its more than 100 meters in length and its six vaults of masonry, the main bridge of Cacabelos is one of the most monumental in the province of Leon. The bridge over the Rúa river exists since Roman times, although the one we can see today dates back to the 16th and 17th centuries. Next to the bridge there is a river pool in which tourists and locals spend the summer afternoons taking a good soak. It has a grove and lawn area. As a curiosity, mention that the Puente Mayor de Cacabelos witnessed a bloody battle of the War of Independence, which in January 1809 faced English and French, and that every year is remembered with the staging of a historical recreation.
