Procession of the Glorious Meeting

Asistí a la Procesión del Encuentro Glorioso este pasado domingo. Discurre desde la Iglesia de San Francisco hasta la Plaza del Mercado , en ella se conmemora la resurrección de Cristo y el encuentro con su madre, la Virgen María. Empezó a las 10:30 de la mañana, el paso de Jesús Resucitado es llevado por doce costaleros que representan a cada una de las cofradías de la ciudad y fue acompañado por una banda de tambores de la cofradía de Nuestra Señora de la Merced, encabezando toda la procesión el Obispo de Barbastro . El paso de la Virgen, que salió más tarde, también fue acompañado por una banda de tambores y cornetas,en este caso de la cofradía de Nuestra Señora de la Soledad . Todos los participantes iban ya con el rostro descubierto por celebrarse la resurrección de Jesús. Una vez reunidos los dos pasos en la plaza y tras desprender a la Virgen de su luto, toda la procesión siguió hasta la catedral. Como en otras procesiones de Barbastro , llama la atención la cantidad de gente joven que está implicada, así como la seriedad y sobriedad del acto. Este año llegué a la última, espero que al siguiente pueda asistir a todas ellas.

I attended the Glorious Encounter procession last Sunday. It runs from the Church of San Francisco to the Market Square, it commemorates the resurrection of Christ and the encounter with his mother, the Virgin Mary. El Encontre Gloriós, se celebra el último día de la Semana Santa. Es un acto único en España, ya que una joven de la localidad representa a Germana de Foix, última reina de Aragón y Vireina de Valencia. Cuenta la historia, que la Vireina acudia todos los años a festejar este acto en la ciudad. Con los años, comento que le gustaría que la recordaran cuando ella no estuviera; y que para ello una joven señorita la representara en este día. Así fue y así se hizo.

The Glorios I found, held on the last day of Holy Week. It is a unique event in Spain, as a young locality represents Germaine de Foix, last queen of vice-queen of Aragon and Valencia.
