I was struck whenever I walked past, it seemed to be a jail-museum, but when I was told the story I realized that Polish people have suffered! The old appalling prison symbolizes the oppression that has haunted Varsovians over the last two centuries. Originally built in the 1830s by order of the czars, the prison was home to many victims of the Nazi terror regime (1939-1944). A third of the 100,000 prisoners died here.
