Prejmer Citadel
In Saxon times the Prejmer´s aim was to protect the rich prairie of Barsa. These large open spaces offered no security in the event of an invasion. Farmers in Prejmer and Harman then built this great fortress capable of accommodating the entire population in case of an extended attack. The citadel of Prejmer, or Tartlau in German, is an imposing whole, different from the rustic citadels of the region´s towns. A large arched walk from the XVIII century, crosses a first line of fortifications to reach a courtyard, and the second hallway leads to the centre of the whole church and the walls of defence.
