Pregonda Cove

Cala Pregonda is found on the north coast of Menorca. It’s an almost virgin cove; there are only two or three homes in the area and to access the cove you need to either go by boat or a half-hour hike.

It has smooth red sand, clear water, and some island-like rock formations which keep it protected from the wind. The rock formations make it seem like you’re in some kind of lunar landscape. We arrived in a sailboat and spent the afternoon there snorkeling. It was a great experience.

We also spent some time exploring the rocks. There are large colonies of aquatic plants that are filled with winkles which, by the way, make for a tasty dinner.

Located in the north of the island, this beach is totally different from the rest. The area is protected and is within one of the island’s natural reserves.

To get to Cala Pregonda by car, you need to first get to Es Mercadal and then follow the road toward Fornells and exit towards the Cavallería Beach.

Once you’re on the road, follow the signs toward Binimel (the beach before Cala Pregonda) and then leave the car in the parking lot. The downside is that you need to take a half hour walk to get to this cove, not exactly pleasant when the sun is beating down. The walk is fine though if you bring plenty of water. And the reward is priceless!

This cove is in striking contrast to the white-sand ones in the south. This beach is a bit rougher and contrasts with the crystal-clear water. The surrounding rocks are ideal for snorkelers. But, be careful with the jellyfish in the area which are light-colored and almost transparent. Even then, it’s still the best cove in northern Menorca. It’s worth visiting!
