Largest airport in Rio Grande do Sul
Salgado Filho International Airport is the largest in the state of Rio Grande do Sul and one of the most important in Brazil. Around 5 million passengers pass through the airport each year. It offers domestic flights to most major destinations in Brazil and also has some international flights to places like Argentina, Chile and Uruguay. It's located 6 miles from the center of Porto Alegre and you can get there by bus or taxi. The latter isn't exactly a cheap option, so be sure to negotiate the price with the driver beforehand. The airport has car rental counters from all the biggest companies (Hertz, Avis, Locate, United Lemmans, Luxcar) and there's a 24-hour business center which has banks, a change bureau, a post office, ATMs, a VIP lounge, public telephones, wifi, and more.
