Port of Lastres

Lastres es un precioso pueblo marinero perteneciente al concejo asturiano de Colunga. Su estratégica situación, dentro de la costa oriental de Asturias, a medio camino entre Gijón y los Picos de Europa, rodeado de Playas y acantilados, le ha convertido en un punto neurálgico que nadie puede dejar de visitar. Desde mediados del siglo XVI, este puerto empezó a destacarse como uno de los principales de la región, debido al auge de la pesca, la caza de la ballena y el comercio marítimo. Pero la prosperidad tornó en declive a principios del XVIII, tras la destrucción del puerto debido a un fuerte temporal. Las obras para hacer uno nuevo tardaron en concluirse, por lo que se inicio la decadencia como importante punto de tráfico marítimo. Ya en el siglo XX se construyó el nuevo puerto y en la última década, su puerto deportivo. Hoy en día, éste último, alberga embarcaciones deportivas durante todo el año y su puerto pesquero cuenta con una importante lonja donde se vende los frescos pescados y mariscos todos los días de pesca.

Ballasts is a beautiful fishing village belonging to the municipality of Asturias Colunga. Its strategic location in the eastern coast of Asturias, halfway between Gijón and the Picos de Europa, surrounded by beaches and cliffs, has become a focal point that no one can miss. Since the mid-sixteenth century, the port began to stand out as one of the leading in the region, due to the boom in fishing, whaling and maritime trade. But prosperity turned into decline in the early eighteenth century, after the destruction of the port due to a heavy storm. The new one works to be completed soon, so began the decline as a major point of maritime traffic. Already in the twentieth century and the new port built in the last decade, its marina. Today, the latter is home to sports boats throughout the year and its fishing port has a large market which sells fresh seafood fishing everyday.

¡¡Aunque conserva ese aire pesquero tradicional!! Cuenta la historia que la construcción del puerto pesquero de Lastres, tiene origen en los tiempos de los romanos, denominada antiguamente como Stabat o ancla o puerto seguro. En la actualidad este puerto ha adquirido muchísima fama debido al rodaje de la serie española del Doctor Mateo quien denominaba al municipio de Lastres, como San Martín del Sella. Aquí todavía numerosos pescadores se dedican a la pesca, y luego venden sus propios pescados en la lonja que está justo en el mismo puerto. Para mí lo más importante, es que aún conserva ese aire pesquero tradicional.

While retaining the traditional fishing air! History tells us that the construction of the fishing port of ballasts, has its origins in Roman times, known formerly as Stabat or anchor or safe harbor. Currently the port has gained a lot fame due to shooting the Spanish series of Doctor Matthew who called the town of ballasts, as San Martín del Sella. Here still many fishermen are engaged in fishing, and then sell their own fish in the fish market which is right on the same port. For me the most important, is that still retains that traditional fishing air.
