Modern passenger terminal
The port of Pointe-à-Pitre was created in the 18th century and has continually been expanded. A storm that passed in 1989 almost destroyed it completely. The new port was constructed in 2002. It has two fixed docks and three floating docks that accommodate freight ships, cruise ships and ferries to nearby islands. It has a modern passenger terminal with four check-in desks, two shops, a bar, waiting room, toilets, a car rental office, a tourist office , and an outdoor craft market (called [poi = 111590] "Karuland" [ / poi]).
The harbour is just a 5 minute walk from the city centre, along Peynier or Achille Boisneuf René streets. The Bergevin bus station is located next to the port and has buses running anywhere in Basse-Terre .
