Ponte Loreto

Qualche chilometro distante dalla città di Lanuvio, poco dopo un cartello che indica la presenza di una piscina, eccolo. Anzi, eccoli, strada e ponte di origine romana, che esistevano qui già dal VIII secolo a.C.; sicuramente il secondo è stato costruito tra il II e il I secolo a.C.: questo si presenta con la classica forma a schiena d'asino ed è a una sola arcata. Oggi, questi resti sono una splendida visione nella campagna lanuvina, abbastanza deserta. Ma prima di Cristo il luogo era molto trafficato soprattutto perché la via Astura, su cui è edificato, era insieme alla strada Ardeate-Lanuvina, molto importante a quei tempi, in quanto collegava questa parte di territorio ad Anzio. Il ponte sembra si chiamasse così per la vicinanza di boschi di alloro (Lauretum). Ora è proprio una meraviglia, così come accompagna per qualche metro la strada moderna su cui sfrecciano le automobili, infiocchettato da querce, olmi, carpini decorati con edera. Un'esperienza incantevole, anche perché il sito non è transennato e si può passeggiare tranquillamente su quella strada e quel ponte, fingendo di essere antichi romani in gita.

A few kilometers away from the town of Lanuvio, shortly after a sign indicating the presence of a swimming pool, here it is. Indeed, here they are, road and bridge of Roman origin, which already existed here from the eighth century BC; definitely the second was built between the second and first century BC: this comes with the classic form humpback and one arch. Today, these remains are a wonderful vision in the countryside Lanuvina, quite deserted. But before Christ the place was very busy especially because the way Astura, which built, was along the road Ardeate-Lanuvina, very important in those days, as it connected this part of land at Anzio. The bridge seems to be called so because of the proximity of the forests of laurel (Lauretum). Now just a marvel, as well as accompanying the modern road for a few meters on which whizzing cars, beribboned by oaks, elms, hornbeams decorated with ivy. A lovely experience, also because the site is not fenced off and you can walk safely on the road and the bridge, pretending to be ancient Romans on a trip.
